We bridge the gap between operational reality and the learning environment students deserve. Interea applies architectural intelligence to schools, preschools, and enrichment centres, designing spaces that work as hard as the people teaching in them.
Accreditations & Awards
Interea is an award-winning interior design company for school and classroom interiors in Singapore, designing learning environments that are functional, safe, and built around the people who use them every day. From layout and material selection to full renovation execution, we help institutions create spaces that support both students and educators – without compromising on safety, durability, or the day-to-day realities of running an active campus.
We work across a wide range of education providers in Singapore, including schools, universities, preschools, language schools, childcare centres, and tuition centres.
Live-Environment Scheduling & Space Planning
Most school renovations happen while the school keeps running. We sequence construction into holidays and after-hours windows, use sound-reducing hoardings between work areas and active classrooms, and plan disruptive works around the term calendar, not the other way around. Layouts are equally deliberate: ergonomic furniture and optimised lighting for classrooms, colourful low-height furnishings for preschools, and specialised zones – libraries, admin offices, reception, and student lounges, each suited to the age group it serves.
Age-Appropriate Space Planning
A preschool classroom, a secondary school science lab, and a tuition centre serve completely different needs. We plan layout, furniture zoning, and circulation around the specific age group and curriculum using the space, from general classrooms to labs, libraries, art and music rooms.
Safety, Accessibility & Material Compliance
Every material choice is filtered through durability, hygiene, and child safety – low-VOC finishes, easy-to-maintain surfaces, and construction standards that hold up under daily use by hundreds of students. For special needs and inclusive settings, we apply universal design principles compliant with BCA accessibility codes, including safe-first corners and accessible hardware.
Our Valued Clients
Our Educational Institution Interior Design Process.
Step 1: 72-Hour Design Sprint
A school renovation has to work around an academic calendar that doesn’t bend for construction. Within 72 hours, we assess your campus, classroom count, curriculum needs, and which zones can realistically be sequenced into holidays or after-hours windows – and hand you a preliminary layout and budget built around your term dates.
Step 2: School Space Design Development
Age-appropriate space planning and construction sequencing happen side by side. While we design layouts suited to each age group from preschool furniture heights to secondary school labs, we’re also mapping which works can run during term (quiet, after-hours) and which need a holiday window, so the design you approve already has a realistic build plan attached.
Step 3: Regulatory Approvals
Schools carry safety and accessibility obligations most commercial spaces don’t – BCA universal design and accessibility codes, material safety standards for child use, and landlord approvals, plus any regulator-specific requirements depending on your institution type. We manage these in-house so compliance is resolved before construction starts, not discovered during a site visit.
Step 4: Site Execution
Construction is sequenced to protect the learning day: sound-reducing hoardings separate active classrooms from work zones, disruptive trades are scheduled into holidays and after-hours slots, and our own site team coordinates carpentry, electrical, and finishes under one contract — so teaching never has to pause for our work to continue.
Step 5: Handover Of Your School Space
A school can’t afford a slow start to term because a classroom isn’t ready. We close out every snag against the term calendar you gave us, so students and educators walk into a finished space on day one, not a construction site with a deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions.
How much do school renovation projects cost?
School and classroom renovations in Singapore typically range from $60 to $150 per square foot. A single classroom refresh sits at the lower end, while multi-room or full-campus renovations with new M&E work, accessibility upgrades, or specialised zones (labs, libraries) push toward the higher end.
In total project terms, a single classroom refresh (600–800 sqft) typically runs $40,000 to $120,000, a multi-classroom or single-wing renovation (2,000–5,000 sqft) runs $150,000 to $500,000, and a full-campus renovation can cost over $500,000 depending on scale and scope. What types of educational institutions do you design for?
Interea work across the full range of education providers, including preschools and kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, universities, language schools, childcare centres, and tuition or enrichment centres. Layout, furniture, and material choices are tailored to the age group and curriculum each one serves.
Can renovations be done while school is still in session?
Yes, most school renovation projects are scheduled around school holidays and after-hours windows specifically so lessons aren’t disrupted, with noisy or dusty works sequenced into the periods that affect students and staff least.
How long does a school or classroom renovation take?
A single classroom refresh typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, while a full school renovation runs 3 to 6 months depending on the number of classrooms and specialised zones involved – sequenced around the term calendar so it’s rarely completed in one continuous block.
Do you use child-safe materials and finishes?
Yes, we prioritise durable, low-VOC, and child-friendly materials throughout, appropriate for daily use by students across all age groups.
Can you customise designs for different age groups?
Yes, we tailor layout, furniture, and material choices for preschools, primary, secondary, and enrichment or tuition centres, accounting for age-specific needs from classroom scale to storage height.
Do you coordinate with our school's IT and facilities team?
Yes, we meet with IT and facilities stakeholders early to ensure data, power, and essential services (air-conditioning, fire protection) remain operational throughout the renovation, and that new IT infrastructure is integrated into the build rather than retrofitted afterward.
Do you design for special needs or inclusive education settings?
Yes, we apply universal design principles compliant with BCA accessibility codes, including safe-first corners, accessible hardware, and layouts that support a range of sensory and mobility needs, so inclusive settings aren’t an afterthought bolted onto a standard classroom design.
